The most common situation where people have been exposed to asbestos is in their employment.
Examples of jobs where people have been exposed to asbestos include:
· asbestos workers – such as at Cape’s Barking factory
· laggers (insulation workers)
· boiler maintenance workers
· electricians & plumbers
· dockers and shipyard workers
· power station workers
· merchant seamen
· roofers and ceiling fixers
· even cleaners and teachers.
People have also developed asbestos related diseases from other types of exposure, such as:
· living near to factories
· children playing in streets near to factories
· washing clothes that have been contaminated with asbestos.
People have developed diseases from exposure in the streets surrounding Cape’s factory in Barking. This has happened in other parts of the country with similar factories.
